Specializing in Thai & Asian Contemporary Art

For his 6th Bangkok solo exhibition at H Gallery, Jaruwat Boonwaedlom, an MFA Graduate of Silipakorn University, presents 8 paintings in oil on canvas of pedestrian Bangkok. The paintings are an amalgamation of urban scenery and contemporary Thai womanhood and are an examination of the deceptions of Thailand's social atmosphere – a subtle critique of modern Thai life.

Using photo-realism, a skill honed at Silapakorn University, Boonwaedlom's paintings are exclusively human in focus but play with the reverberations of city-life.  Encased behind what appears to be panes of glass, which separate the viewer from the familiarity of a typical urban scene, are depictions of fashionable young Thai women. At the forefront is a commentary about how Thai women exist in the urban jungle of Bangkok.  But these large-scale paintings of woman superimposed over a massive urban landscape explore issues of peer pressure and changing values among Thailand’s new generation.
