Eat Me Restaurant is very pleased to announce an exhibition by three artists who explore the contemporary resonances of images of cities and architecture. Chris Shaw-Hughes creates iconic drawings based on photographs of places that have suffered traumatic events. Michael Lee’s stark paintings of architectural plans are a ghostly meditation on the ideals of the built environment. And Ronnaphop Terchawong isolates details of the urban landscape on large canvases to alienating, but quietly poignant, effect.

Each of the artists responds to the very idea of cities and architecture as intensely metaphorical in our current era, as more cities than ever now compete for cultural and economic power. Elegies for the Future prompts considerations of the ways that visual imagery can shape understanding and appear to provide a definitive aura for certain sites and spaces. This exhibition also traces the dislocating and dystopian qualities of structures built to serve our needs and interests. In our world of advanced modernity, Elegies for the Future suggests that the future has already arrived but perhaps it is not the one we imagined and now we don’t know where we are, or where we are going.

Chris Shaw-Hughes is based in Brighton, UK. His exhibitions include London’s Institute of Contemporary Art and The Royal Academy. Michael Lee is an artist, curator and publisher based between Singapore and Berlin and exhibits internationally. Ronnaphop Terchawong is a MFA graduate of Bangkok’s Silpakorn University and now teaches at Kon Kaen University in the Northeast of Thailand.
