'elsewhere' begins here and vice-versa BANGKOK & CHIANG MAI

H Gallery is very pleased to announce a major solo exhibition by Kornkrit Jianpinidian across the gallery's two venues in Bangkok and Chiang Mai, running concurrently. H Gallery Bangkok will show photography, text and drawings from four series, including the celebrated Worry and Love, while the H Gallery Chiang Mai hosts a video installation.

The title of this exhibition is taken from an essay on cities by Paul Virilio and suggests perpetual dislocation. 'elsewhere' begins here and vice-versa was inspired by Kornkrit's early memories of moving to Thailand's capital, and places and spaces  form the predominant motifs of these artworks. However, the artist skirts confessional or particularly individualized modes of expression to instead examine the very idea of what it means to look back or experience melancholia. He employs found imagery and references to movies as well as exploring a visual analogy to memory through the method of digitally erasing elements of photographs, to near-seamless effect.

The essential theme of 'elsewhere' begins here and vice-versa is desire: the desires that memories invoke; desires that certain spaces can encode; desire for others; and the desires that images provoke. Desire, we are reminded, is a recognition of lack, the want of a sense of wholeness.

Both exhibitions for 'elsewhere' begins here and vice-versa are installed in a manner that emphasizes the experience of space and time as unfolding and, like memory, the exhibitions are, by turns, revealing and hazy, and intimate yet unreachable.
